- Piccolo bottle / quart bottle
The piccolo bottle / quart bottle is only 1/4 of the standard bottle, with a capacity of 187.5 ml. In some crowded places, such as airplanes, gymnasiums or nightclubs, you can often see single glass champagne or sparkling wine using this wine bottle.
- Half bottle
The French call this wine bottle “Fillette” and its capacity is 375 ml. Corks are used in many half bottles of wine, but it should be noted that wine ripens faster in small bottles. Therefore, even with good aging potential, half bottled wine is not suitable for aging for a long time.
- Standard bottle
Until today, we cannot know exactly why the standard wine bottle is 750ml, but this does not prevent it from becoming a global unified standard.
- Magnum bottle
Magnum bottle has a capacity equivalent to two standard bottles, which is 1.5 liters. This is the only kind of wine bottle that won’t have different names due to different production areas. In other words, whether in Burgundy, Bordeaux or champagne, 1.5-liter bottles are called “magnum”. The name comes from the word “Magnus” in Latin, which means “tall liquor bottles”. This kind of wine bottle can not only hold more wine, but also slow down the ripening speed of the wine in the bottle and make the wine have more rich fruit aroma. In addition, this kind of wine bottle has another advantage because there is more alcohol in the bottle, and it is not easy for air to enter the bottle.
- Roboan bottle
The roboan bottle, also known as the Jewish king bottle, has a capacity of 4.5 liters, equivalent to 6 standard bottles. In Bordeaux, the roboan bottle is also called the “jeroboan bottle”, which is the double magnum bottle in Burgundy. Therefore, consumers are often confused. It must be mentioned that roboan is the unified monarchy of Israel, that is, the king of the later kingdom of Judah. After the resistance of ten northern tribes of Israel, he established an independent kingdom of Israel. This kind of 4.5-liter bottle of wine is extremely rare. Generally, only top-level famous wineries will prepare it for the needs of guests, and it is usually bottled manually.
